The Kogi State Police Command has stopped a planned Sallah rally in Okene Local Government Area. The event was allegedly organized by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP – Kogi Central).
Why the Police Banned the Rally
In a statement on Tuesday, Police Commissioner Miller Dantawaye said the ban was due to security concerns. The statement was issued by SP Williams Ovye-Aya, the command’s spokesman.
According to reports, the senator planned to visit her constituency for Sallah celebrations. She allegedly wanted to hold a rally against her ongoing recall process.
Security Risks and Government Ban
The police said intelligence reports indicated that hoodlums might hijack the event and cause unrest. The Kogi State Government had also placed a ban on all rallies and processions.
“The command urges organizers to cancel the planned rally to maintain peace in the state,” the statement read.
Police Issue Strong Warning
The Kogi Police Command warned that it would not tolerate any disruption of public order.
“The command cannot allow the existing peace to be jeopardized,” it stated.
Authorities also stressed that anyone who violates the ban will face the full weight of the law.
With tensions rising over Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s recall process, the situation remains uncertain.
