In a bid to boost food security and support farmers, the Plateau State government has approved the procurement of 6,300 tons of assorted fertiliser ahead of the 2025 farming season.
State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Joyce Ramnap, made this known during an interview on Peace FM 90.5, monitored by our correspondent in Jos.
Direct Support for Farmers
Ramnap revealed that the Ministry of Agriculture has introduced a farmer registration database to ensure that only genuine farmers receive subsidized fertilizer and farming inputs.
“The essence of this initiative is to ensure that Plateau State farmers have direct access to subsidized fertilizers. They will no longer have to buy through third parties, reducing corruption and preventing diversion,” she said.
She further emphasized that direct distribution of fertilisers will not only help farmers but also contribute to the state’s economic recovery.
Ongoing Infrastructure Projects Across Plateau
Speaking on ongoing infrastructural projects, the commissioner disclosed that the government has resumed work on several abandoned projects across the state.
“Across the three senatorial zones, abandoned road projects have been revisited and are now in progress. For instance, work is ongoing on the 55.23 km road project covering Rukuba, Miango, Farin Lamba, Busabuji, and Kent Academy,” she explained.
Additionally, she highlighted the Jibam-Dokang-Kasuwan Baap Road project, which includes expanding a critical bridge that previously had only one lane, causing frequent traffic congestion.
“The administration is doubling the bridge to ensure smooth traffic flow and ease transportation challenges for residents,” she added.
With these initiatives, the Plateau State government aims to enhance agricultural productivity while improving critical infrastructure, ensuring a more robust economy for the state.
