Zimbabwe’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has pledged a $150,000 bonus to the national football team, the Warriors, for each victory in their upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Benin and Nigeria. This means the team could earn an additional $300,000 if they win both matches.
The Warriors are set to face Nigeria’s Super Eagles on March 25 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. Currently, Zimbabwe sits at the bottom of Group C with two points from four games, while Nigeria is fifth with three points.
Zimbabwe’s head coach, Michael Nees, remains optimistic about their chances against Nigeria, stating that despite the Super Eagles’ status as favorites, they are “beatable in Uyo.”
In a recent development, Nigerian players Ola Aina and Alex Iwobi encountered an unexpected situation upon arriving at their team hotel for international duty, discovering they had to share a double bed. This incident has added a light-hearted note to the team’s preparations.
The upcoming match is crucial for both teams, as they aim to improve their standings in the qualifiers. Zimbabwe seeks their first win, while Nigeria hopes to recover from recent setbacks, including a surprising defeat to Benin.
