Marvel’s latest blockbuster, Captain America: Brave New World, is making waves in Nigeria, closing in on the N300 million mark after just four weeks in cinemas.
A Box Office Powerhouse in Nigeria
According to figures from the Nigerian Box Office on Monday, the film pulled in N43.9 million between February 28 and March 2, bringing its total earnings to an impressive N298 million.
It kicked off with a record-breaking N137.5 million opening weekend, the biggest debut of 2025 in Nigeria. Since then, it has dominated the local box office, proving Nigeria’s growing appetite for action-packed superhero films.
Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, Brave New World also topped the February 14–16 weekend box office. By the end of its second week, it had already grossed N226 million, with an additional N57.2 million coming in between February 21 and 23.
Marvel Studios and Disney continue to thrive in Nigeria, a key market that consistently embraces Hollywood’s biggest hits.
Mixed Results on the Global Stage
While Brave New World is soaring in Nigeria, its global performance paints a different picture.
The film has held the number-one spot worldwide for three consecutive weekends, but its earnings are raising concerns for Marvel.
Directed by Julius Onah, the film marks Anthony Mackie’s first solo outing as Captain America since taking over the shield in Avengers: Endgame. While it topped the U.S. box office last weekend with $15 million, its momentum has been affected by the buzz surrounding the 2025 Academy Awards.
So far, Brave New World has earned $341.8 million globally, surpassing The Incredible Hulk (2008) at $265.5 million and The Marvels (2023) at $199.7 million, which remains Marvel’s lowest-grossing film.
With its strong performance in Nigeria, the film continues to prove that African audiences are a major force in Hollywood’s global box office strategy.
