About 200 women in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have received life-changing empowerment tools from Julius Berger Nigeria as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The event, held last Friday, was met with celebration and gratitude as beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the company’s continued commitment to improving livelihoods.
Dignitaries from the FCT Administration (FCTA), representatives of Julius Berger, and community leaders gathered at the Cyprian Ekwensi Cultural Centre in Area 10, Garki, Abuja, to witness the impact of the initiative. The program reinforced Julius Berger’s dedication to creating economic opportunities for women.
A Construction Giant Investing in Women’s Empowerment
Speaking at the event, FCT Mandate Secretary for Women Affairs, Dr. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, praised Julius Berger for its contributions beyond infrastructure development.
“I want us to truly appreciate Julius Berger Nigeria,” she said. “They are widely recognized for building first-class roads and infrastructure in Nigeria, especially in the FCT. The International Conference Centre, which is now undergoing renovation, was originally built by Julius Berger in just six months—an incredible feat. Even today, their road projects are setting new records for timely and exceptional delivery.
“To see such a company also investing in women’s empowerment is truly commendable.”
Director of the Women Development Department, Mrs. Aina Taiyo Sanni, described the initiative as a dream come true and emphasized the importance of sustaining this collaboration.
“We are deeply grateful to Julius Berger, and we hope to keep this partnership alive because it is a valuable and impactful relationship that we would not want to lose,” she stated.
Julius Berger’s Commitment to Community Growth
Julius Berger’s Chief Risk Officer, Mrs. Shakira Mustapha, reaffirmed the company’s dedication to empowering women, highlighting the ripple effect it has on families, communities, and the nation.
“We believe that when you empower a woman, you empower not just a family but an entire community,” Mustapha said. “Julius Berger is committed to both corporate growth and national progress, and that’s why we are investing in programs like this.”
She further explained that the company’s commitment to women’s economic inclusion made its partnership with the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat a natural and necessary step.
“Our CSR activities have always been community-focused, and this is one of many initiatives we are launching to help women in the FCT generate sustainable income for themselves and their families, ultimately contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth,” she added.
The initiative was also part of Julius Berger’s celebration of International Women’s Day, marking a significant milestone for the 200 women who received empowerment tools such as sewing machines, grinding machines, hair dryers, and gas cookers.
A Life-Changing Moment for Beneficiaries
For the women who benefited, the day was filled with joy and renewed hope.
One recipient, Mrs. Patricia Amos, couldn’t contain her excitement.
“I am so grateful for this gift! Honestly, I don’t even have the words to express my gratitude,” she said. “Thank you, Julius Berger! We pray for more opportunities for you because empowering someone who had lost hope is no small act of kindness.”
Another beneficiary, Juliet, shared a similar sentiment.
“I am truly speechless. This is such a wonderful gift, and I am deeply grateful to Julius Berger. May they continue to grow and achieve even greater heights,” she said.

The event was graced by key government officials, including the Secretary of the FCTA Women Affairs Secretariat, Barrister Hajiya Asmau Muktar, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of State, FCT, Maijidda Adamu Kuku.
