Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has responded to President Bola Tinubu’s state of emergency declaration, stating that the situation does not warrant such drastic action.
In a statement personally signed by him, Fubara emphasized that despite political disagreements, his administration was functioning effectively—salaries were paid, projects were ongoing, and the state remained peaceful.
He reassured residents that he would work with relevant institutions to uphold democracy and ensure Rivers State continues to progress. He also reinstated that during his regime;
- Rivers State has remained safe and secure under his leadership.
- Governance continued despite political tensions, with salaries paid and developmental projects executed.
- His administration complied with the Supreme Court’s judgment and implemented the President’s peace terms in good faith.
- The Rivers State House of Assembly frustrated efforts to resolve the crisis, making peace difficult.
Governor Fubara urged residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding, emphasizing that Rivers people are resilient and will navigate this challenge with wisdom and patience.
