Enzo Maresca, the Chelsea boss, has stated that people are waiting to rejoice over the downfall of Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City boss.
This is amid Manchester City’s ongoing struggles with form.
Pep Guardiola’s team has been able to win just one of their last 10 matches across all competitions.
Ahead of the Boxing Day fixtures, Manchester City are seventh in the league table with 27 points in 17 matches.
The Cityzens are 12 points behind leaders Liverpool, who also have a game in hand.
They also risk crashing out of the Champions League as they languish in 22nd position, with eight points after six matches.
Maresca said that he had a conversation with the former Barcelona manager, insisting the Manchester City boss knows what’s wrong with his side.
“I spoke with Pep yesterday and he is completely calm and knows exactly what has happened there,” he said during his post match press briefing.
“But the one thing we know in football is that because of the situation they have there, people are waiting for something bad to happen so they can be happy.
“When you see someone being so successful season after season, the moment they drop, people love to say: ‘Ah, look, he is not good enough.’ But I don’t think that is the correct thing to do.”
