Academic activities at Taraba State University, including ongoing second-semester exams, have been brought to a standstill as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) declared an indefinite strike.
ASUU Chairperson, Dr. Garba Mbave, cited unresolved issues such as unpaid salaries, lack of a functional pension scheme, non-payment of Earned Academic Allowances, and absence of a governing council. Attempts to resolve these issues through dialogue with the university management and state government have reportedly failed.
While acknowledging the impact on students, Dr. Mbave emphasized the union’s need to demand justice for its members. Students, meanwhile, are urging the state government to resolve the crisis quickly.
Efforts to get comments from the State Commissioner for Education were unsuccessful.
