The Minister of State for Works, Mohammed Goronyo, has directed the Federal Emergency Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to compile and submit a list of contractors who have failed to deliver on their assigned road projects.
The directive was issued during Goronyo’s familiarization tour of FERMA’s South West region, where state coordinators provided updates on project progress, challenges, and goals. The Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Ahmed, disclosed the directive in a statement on Tuesday.
Goronyo expressed dissatisfaction with contractors failing to fulfill their obligations, warning of severe consequences for non-compliance. He stressed that delays and subpar performance would no longer be tolerated.
“The era of abandoning projects is over,” he declared. “These contracts are awarded and paid for with taxpayers’ money, who expect value in return.”

The minister instructed that the list of defaulting contractors be submitted to FERMA’s headquarters by next week. He further proposed the establishment of a robust Technical Committee to monitor and assess the quality of FERMA projects nationwide.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by FERMA, Goronyo maintained that these obstacles could be overcome with determination and collaboration. He assured the Federal Road Management Engineers in the South West that their concerns would be addressed, emphasizing the importance of delivering on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate.
“The country must tighten its belt and confront these challenges head-on,” Goronyo stated. “We now have a President who is determined to tackle these challenges without complaint. We must support one another and approach things differently.”
To ensure accountability, Goronyo pledged to make unscheduled visits to project sites to observe contractors’ performance firsthand. He also reaffirmed his commitment to improving staff welfare within FERMA.
In addition to addressing FERMA-related concerns, Goronyo launched a solar-powered streetlight project in the Isale-Eko community of Lagos State. The project, donated by FERMA, aims to enhance the area’s socio-economic conditions and bolster security.
Goronyo emphasized the initiative’s alignment with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, urging residents to take ownership of the streetlights to prevent vandalism.
“This project demonstrates our commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians and addressing community challenges,” Goronyo said.
