The Delta State Police Command has confirmed five persons dead in a boat mishap along Bennett Island in Warri South Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations, Bright Edafe in a statement on Tuesday said six persons were injured while 19 other passengers were rescued.
He said at press time, one of the passengers was still missing, saying “Five found dead, six persons injured and still receiving treatment, nineteen persons rescued, and one still missing.”

The Police image maker also said some robbery suspects lost their lives during a cross fire between members of their gang and policemen in a bush close to Warri and arms recovered from them during the operations.
His statement reads: “Surveillance team of Ekpan Division while on patrol along Effurun Round About axis arrested one Eto aged 31yrs with a black bag containing Fifty Seven live cartridges, upon which the surveillance team mobilized to their hideout following Eto’s confession at CocoNut Village Along Warri/Sapele Road by Mercy City and arrested one Sunny surname unknown 25yrs old, who was waiting to receive the consignment ‘ground nuts’. Suspects led operatives to their forest main hide out behind 3 Battalion Barracks Army Estate Effurun along Warri/Sapele road being their main camp ‘Korodo’.
