The Washington Commanders have been one of the feel-good stories of the 2024 season with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels leading them into playoff position with some miracle plays. He almost had another one in Week 12 against the Washington Commanders — if only Austin Seibert had done his job.
The Commanders were trailing 27-20 with 21 seconds left having just forced a Cowboys punt. Daniels lined up at his own 35 and somehow found Terry McLaurin for a wild 86-yard catch-and-run score.
There was bedlam at FedEx Field, even as the announcers warned viewers to not get ahead of themselves. Kicker Austin Seibert had missed an extra point earlier in the game, but there was no way he would miss another, right? Right?
It wasn’t entirely Seibert’s fault. The long snapper fired the ball in low. Holder Tress Way was able to quickly adjust and get the ball in place. Unfortunately for the Commanders, Seibert pulled it wide of the uprights.
The Commanders got one more chance down 34-26, but Daniels could not connect on another Hail Mary completion. The Commanders drop to 7-5 with the loss while the Cowboys improve to 4-7 with the win.
