The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in Bauchi State, on Wednesday, strongly condemned the state government’s decision to allocate N6 billion for the construction of an Oil and Gas Academy, describing it as a “white elephant initiative” that highlights the government’s disconnection from the people’s needs.
“This ill-conceived project is a stark reminder of the government’s priorities, which seem to be skewed towards grandiose schemes rather than tangible benefits for the populace,” said Abdulazeez Haruna, PRP State Secretary in a press statement.
The PRP argues that the project’s feasibility and necessity are questionable, especially considering the state’s pressing challenges in education and healthcare.
“Our schools are struggling with dilapidated infrastructure and inadequate teaching materials, while our hospitals lack essential supplies and equipment,” Haruna noted.

“It is deeply troubling that the government would prioritize an oil and gas academy over empowering our youth or providing healthcare.”
The party also criticized the government’s focus on the Kolmani Oil Field, which has been touted as a transformative development for the state. “This oil field is nothing more than a mirage, a dream that has yet to materialize,” Haruna said.
“Investing colossal sums into an academy predicated on an uncertain and largely speculative industry raises serious questions about the government’s long-term vision and commitment to socioeconomic betterment.”
The PRP is calling on the Bauchi State government to abandon the project and redirect the N6 billion towards rebuilding the state’s educational and healthcare systems. “Nothing is more valuable than investing in the future of our children and the health of our citizens,” Haruna emphasized.
