Victor Wembanyama was immediately one of the NBA’s best defenders as a rookie. As he enters his second season, the Spurs’ big man is a trendy pick to win Defensive Player of Year.
Luka Doncic might be the NBA’s most unstoppable offensive player right now. Doncic’s blend of high-octane scoring and playmaking fueled the Dallas Mavericks to the NBA Finals last season, and he’s only just starting his prime at 25 years old.
As the Spurs and Mavericks faced off to open the 2024-25 season on Thursday night, Doncic and Wembanyama met on a fast break. It sure seemed like the Spurs big was ready to swat away a Doncic layup attempt. That’s when Luka reached his bag and found magic.
Doncic threw an over-the-shoulder pass that landed perfectly in teammate P.J. Washington’s hands. Washington drained the corner three to make the highlight official. Watch the play here:
See, Dyson Daniels, that’s how it’s done! When a star teammate makes a great pass, you have to knock down the shot.
With Luka leading the way, the Mavs are going to be great once again. The Spurs will get there eventually with Wemby, but probably not yet.
