The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Mr Peter Obi, has once again lamented the insecurity in the country.
Obi, who decried the activities of non-state actors, whom he said have continued to inflict pain and sorrow on families, stated that the count of people who have “lost their lives to insecurity in our nation” is gradually becoming impossible to keep track of.
The former Anambra State Governor expressed his concerns on Sunday, via his official X handle @PeterObi, in response to the killing of some crew members of SuperSport TV, who were ambushed along the Ihiala-Orlu Road, Anambra State, as well as other recent killings across the country.
He said, “The never-ending incidents of killings, kidnappings, and other violent crimes across the country have continued to be of concern to many. The situation has remained unchecked and worsens by the day.
“Non-state actors have continued to inflict pain and sorrow on families whose loved ones are often kidnapped and, at times, killed in gruesome ways.
“In particular, I condemn in its entirety the unfortunate killing of some crew members of SuperSport TV, who were attacked in a tragic ambush along the Ihiala-Orlu Road, Anambra State, a few days ago.
“These media practitioners were on their way to Uyo to perform official duties for their organisation, and indeed the nation, when the tragic incident occurred, leading to their deaths and the kidnapping of others,” he said.
Obi further lamented, “Two days ago, a few people were also reportedly killed, while others were injured in a terror attack by criminals in the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
“These violent attacks, many of which go unreported, have now become a daily occurrence in our once-secure nation.”
“We are gradually losing count of the people who have lost their lives to insecurity in our nation.
“How much longer will we allow our people to die before we declare that enough is enough?” Obi asked.
He extended his condolences to the families who have lost loved ones in the recent attacks while “praying for eternal rest for the deceased and a swift recovery for the injured.
“We are all in this together as a nation, and we must continue to demand the security of the lives and property of every Nigerian.”
