In what will come across as a really heartbreaking development, some daredevil gunmen have gone on rampage, killing a pregnant woman and injuring two others in the Jol community, Riyom local government area of Plateau State.
A statement by the National Body of Berom Youths Moulder Association (BYM) signed by its National President, Barrister Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, said the gunmen attacked a man and his pregnant wife, identified as Davou Raymond and Favour Raymond, who were on a motorcycle along Sho to Jol Road at about 3:00 pm on Thursday.
The association disclosed that they were returning from an antenatal clinic in Sho when the gunmen suspected to be Fulani terrorists attacked them.
Mrs. Favour Raymond lost her life while the husband sustained various degrees of injuries and is currently reviewing my treatment in the nearby hospital.
Also, one Mr. Dachollom Biri of the Daku community in the local government, who was returning home to Vwak, where IDPs of Daku take refuge, was similarly attacked by another group of gunmen and has also been rushed to the hospital.
BYM observed that the recent breach of peace and order in the general area has caused a rising tension and warned that, if not nipped in the bud, it could degenerate to a full-scale intractable violence affecting not only Jol but also its neighbouring villages as well as local government areas bordering Riyom and beyond.
“This is why the BYM is calling on the people of Jol, not only to bear the irreparable loss meted out on them, but also to exercise usual restraint and patience, more so that security agents are on the ground, and have called for restraint and calmness to enable them to carry out a out a discreet investigation,” the statement read.
The Association therefore recommended that L farming and other activities be put on hold until adequate security arrangements are made, be on serious watch, and report any suspicious movement to security agents.
