The Delta State Police Command has dismissed reports of a suicide bombing in the timber town of Sapele.
In a telephone conversation with The Nation on Wednesday afternoon, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said reports of the bomb explosion in the area were mere exaggeration of a mild incident.
Reports of an alleged suicide bombing along Mission Road in Sapele on Tuesday evening had caused panic among residents of the area and neighbouring towns.
The reports claimed the suspect had his body parts flung around different parts of the scene.
Several persons were said to be hospitalised from injuries sustained in the incident.
However, the police spokesman said the incident was so insignificant that it did not get the attention of the Police in the area until media reports began flying around.
The PPRO who asked to speak more about the incident later, as he was about to go on a live programme, said: “There was no bomb blast in Sapele. It’s just an unnecessary exaggeration. It was just something mild, not bomb. There was no casualty.”
