A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Ambassador Abayomi Nurain Mumuni has sent a message to party chieftains.
He warned them to stop distracting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with 2027 presidential ambitions.
The APC chieftain made this declaration while reacting to the statement credited to some APC chieftains who said that they have resolved to support Tinubu in 2027.
Recall that some APC chieftains, among whom are former national chairman of APC Chief Bisi Akande, former governor of Ogun State Chief Olusegun Osoba, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had on Saturday in Lagos expressed their support for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
But Mumuni, in his reaction, described the statement as ill-timed.
Mumuni, in a statement signed by his media aide, Rasheed Abubakar, said that it is time to stop the charade of masquerading 2027 election distractions.
The APC chieftain, in the statement, advised those who are talking about 2027 to allow Tinubu to focus on how to provide solutions to the current economic downturn in the country.
The APC, in the statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, noted that the hardship many Nigerians endure today is a direct consequence of past policies and dishonest leadership.
Mumuni noted that it is the responsibility of all political gladiators to rally around Tinubu and support his efforts to navigate the turbulent times rather than diverting his attention to future political contests.
“We find it imperative to address the growing distractions being posed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration by political opportunists focused on the 2027 elections. At a time when our nation grapples with the serious aftermath of past governance failures, the focus must remain steadfastly on solutions for the pressing challenges facing Nigerians.
“As the country continues to strive towards recovery and stability, it is crucial that we all prioritize the urgent needs of our citizens over personal political ambitions. The hardship many Nigerians endure today is a direct consequence of past policies and dishonest leadership. It is our shared responsibility to rally around President Tinubu and support his efforts to navigate these turbulent times rather than diverting his attention to future political contests.
“The time for politicking will come, but right now, we must ensure that the government is not burdened by unnecessary distractions. Those who are currently comfortable in their positions and benefiting from previous administrations’ mismanagement should reflect on the suffering of ordinary Nigerians. Their focus should be on contributing to the governance of our nation rather than seeking to capitalize on the situation for their own gain.
“We urge all political actors and stakeholders to allow President Tinubu and his administration the space they need to enact the necessary reforms and policies that will lead us towards a more prosperous future. Let us prioritize the welfare of our people and work together towards rebuilding our great nation.
“In conclusion, it is essential that we unite as a nation, placing the interests of our citizens above individual ambitions. Let President Tinubu govern and implement the changes needed for our collective healing and progress.”
