The Mayor of Chilpancingo,
a Mexican city in the southwest state of Guerrero plagued by drug violence, has been murdered by suspected drug Lords.
The Mayor, Alejandro Across, was murdered six days after he assumed office.
His death came three days after the city government’s new secretary, Francisco Tapia, was shot dead by armed men.
Arcos was elected in June, representing an opposition coalition that included the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI).
The coalition denounced his killing as a cowardly crime and called for justice.

According to PRI president, Alejandro Moreno, the killing of both men who had been in office less than a week was unacceptable.
“Enough of violence and impunity! The people of Guerrero do not deserve to live in fear,” Moreno stated on X on Monday.
“They had been in office for less than a week. Young and honest officials who sought progress for their community,” Moreno added.
The state governor, Evelyn Salgado, who also confirmed the murder of the Mayor, said the city was in mourning over a murder that “fills us with indignation”.
Police said in a statement that Arcos was found dead on Sunday with his body decapitated.
