The President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association and wife of the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi, on Friday, gave out food items and cash gifts to 50 widows of customs officers at Ogun 1 Area Command, Idiroko.
Adeniyi also distributed writing materials including books and mathematical sets to the customs service students of both primary and secondary schools. At the same time, 54 of them who were outstanding in their academics were granted scholarships.
The CG’s wife said that the kind gesture was to let the wives of the fallen officers know that they are always in their thoughts and will always support them within the available resources.
Adeniyi said that her visit to Ogun I Area Command underscored the commitment of the Customs to enhance the welfare of the wives and children of their officers.
She said that her leadership is deeply aware of the unique challenges faced by the families of customs officers, particularly those stationed in difficult border regions like Idiroko, as they constantly engaged in battles against smugglers, traffickers, and criminals which often takes a toll not just on the officers but on their families as well.
Adeniyi has, however, urged the women to stay courageous and prayerful while inspiring their husbands to continue offering their best to defend the nation.
She said, “As wives and mothers, we know firsthand the anxieties, fears, and sacrifices that come with having our loved ones on the frontlines.
“The threat of danger is ever-present, and the pressure on their shoulders can sometimes weigh heavily on us too. But I stand here today to encourage every one of you: Remain steadfast.
“Stay prayerful. Continue to support your husbands with strength and courage. Your unwavering support is not just a comfort to them, but a vital source of inspiration that helps them carry out their duties diligently. Together, as families and as a community, we have a critical role to play in keeping Nigeria safe.”
Adeniyi urged the women not to rest on their oars but to always engage in meaningful capacity building that can further equip them to give strong support to their families while also contributing to national development.
She urged the women to continue to uphold COWA’s core values of compassion, solidarity and empowerment while also working in unity to move the Ogun 1 Area Command forward.
Speaking earlier, the Ogun 1 Area Command COWA’s Chairperson, Adenike Folu-Ojo, lauded Adeniyi for her tireless efforts to provide succour for both the wives and children of the fallen officers and those who are still in the service.
Folu-Ojo noted that Adeniyi’s visit is a beacon of hope for the families of the fallen heroes saying that though, their loss is understandably immeasurable COWA’s constant presence and support helps to reduce the burden of the pain.
She explained that the CG’s wife’s national leadership has continued to inspire the women in Ogun 1 Area Command to remain resilient, supportive and committed to working hard together to provide emotional and material support to the families in the command.
Folu-Ojo urged Adeniyi to continue with her visionary leadership pledging the support of the Ogun 1 Area Command COWA’s members to the shared mission of making life much more meaningful to the families of both serving and fallen officers.
