The Anambra State Police Command has assured residents of adequate security during and after Saturday’s local government elections in the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono, stated during a media briefing in Awka on Friday that residents in areas prone to insecurity will vote at their local government headquarters.
Obono made this announcement ahead of the Anambra State local government council elections scheduled for 28 September 2024.
He said, “Places like Lilu, Iseke, Ubuluisiuzo, and Mbosi, where there is insecurity, will have their voting at the local government council headquarters, where security and facilities will be provided.
“Adequate manpower has been deployed throughout the state to ensure safety and security. We assure the public of their protection.
“There will be a restriction of movement enforced by the police from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and we urge citizens and residents to take this restriction seriously.
“We are calling on the public, Anambra people, and residents, as they have always done in the past, to come out and cast their votes for the candidates of their choice.
“We are on the ground to provide security, ensure safety, and uphold the will of the people. We hope everyone will conduct themselves with dignity. All entry points into Anambra State will be blocked, and we expect responsible behaviour from all.
“It is not a do-or-die affair, and we hope for cooperation to ensure a seamless exercise.”
