The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has pledged to safeguard its votes in the upcoming local government elections, scheduled for October 24, 2024.
Abdullahi Abbas, the state chairman, made this declaration in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Thursday.
According to Abbas, the party is taking all necessary measures to ensure maximum participation of its supporters in the elections. “We are doing everything humanly possible to ensure that our teeming supporters participate in the elections,” he stated. The APC is mobilizing its supporters to participate in the elections, prioritizing vote protection and a peaceful process.

The party plans to organize primary elections soon to select candidates for the 44 local government areas. Abbas emphasized the importance of a free, fair, and credible electoral process, appealing to the state electoral commission to provide an enabling environment for all participating parties.
Key Demands from the APC:
– Equal Opportunities: The party demands equal opportunities for all contestants to participate without bias.
– Transparent Electoral Process: APC seeks a transparent electoral process to ensure the integrity of the elections.
– Peaceful Atmosphere: The party urges the commission to maintain a peaceful atmosphere throughout the elections.
Abbas reassured that the party has embarked on house-to-house sensitization of its supporters to encourage mass participation in the October 24 elections. He also warned party supporters against violence before, during, and after the elections, emphasizing that the APC will not tolerate intimidation.
“Kano state still remains a stronghold of APC, and we want to maintain our lead,” Abbas said. “We urge the commission to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, which is crucial for Nigeria’s democratic development.”
This development comes after the APC’s loss in the 2023 Kano State gubernatorial election, where Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) emerged victorious. The upcoming local government elections will be a crucial test for the APC’s efforts to maintain its influence in the state.
