The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports circulating online that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, has tendered his resignation.
An online report had claimed Lagbaja had submitted his resignation letter to the President.
The report claimed that his resignation came 24 hours after escaping an assassination attempt on his life.
It also added that Lagbaja’s resignation has thrown the military hierarchy into a state of confusion.
In an inquiry by a Punch correspondent on Monday, the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, described the report as fake news.
“It is fake news; please disregard it,” he simply said.
Lagbaja was appointed on June 19, 2023, by President Tinubu to succeed Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya.
Lagbaja is the 23rd Chief of Army Staff.
