The Abia State Government has stated that it will commence payment of the new minimum wage from October.
The state Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday while briefing the press on the outcome of the week’s State Executive Council meeting chaired by the state governor, Alex Otti.
He stated the payment, “will cut across all categories of workers.”
The commissioner also sais that the state government, in its bid to strengthen administration of justice, will commence the construction of 17 court halls across the 17 local government areas of the state.
He further disclosed that the state Ministry of Health will next week organise a free medical outreach at Ugwunnagbo.
He said there would be free medical consultations, maternal and child healthcare services and free diagnostic tests
He also said that in a bid to encourage Abia athletes, the governor has concluded plans to host para-Olympic athletes who made the state proud, particularly Miss Onyinyechi Mark who won gold in the 61 kg category and Miss Esther Nworgu who also won silver in the 41kg class.
