The Oko Baba plank market located in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos state is on fire.
The incident has prompted a swift response from officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
An X user, Adedeji Olalekan, tweeting as #Stylomedia, reported on Sunday that the fire had spread to nearby shanties, causing widespread damage in the area.
He wrote, “Okobaba Street is on fire now, all the shanties are burning.”
Confirming the incident to The Punch, LASEMA spokesperson, Nosa Okunbor, shared a brief update via WhatsApp, stating that emergency teams are actively working on search and rescue operations at the scene.
He said, “LASEMA Response Team, LRU Fire Unit, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in search and rescue operation at Oko Baba plank market by Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta.”
