The supporters of Shehu Buba Umar, the lawmaker representing Bauchi South in the Senate under the All Progressives Congress, APC, have accused him of neglect and mistreatment.
The youths, frustrated over what they described as abandonment tore down the senator’s banner in Tilden Fulani on Saturday, while expressing their anger.
They also declared the withdrawal of their support for the Senator, claiming they were abandoned after working hard to secure Buba’s victory in the 2023 General Elections.
An eyewitness who spoke in confidence in an interview on Sunday explained that tensions escalated when the youths learned that the Senator was passing through the area.
He said the youths blocked the road, demanding that Buba stop to address them, however, the Senator refused to engage the youths, directing his security detail to clear the road for his convoy.
This led to a brief confrontation and during the altercation, one of the youths was reportedly injured and is now receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility.
Another resident, who also didn’t want to be identified, condemned the Senator’s actions, saying, “How Sen. Shehu Buba Umar treated his supporters in Tilden Fulani today is unacceptable.
His decision to have the road cleared by security forces instead of engaging with his supporters led to an unfortunate injury. We demand an apology from him for this mistreatment.”
Meanwhile, efforts to get a reaction from the senator or his representatives were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls, WhatsApp messages and texts sent to him.
