Powerlifter Folashade Oluwafemiayo ended the country’s campaign at the 2024 Paris Paralympics on a high note on Sunday.
The Team Nigeria captain won a gold medal in the women’s para-powerlifting over 86kg category.
In addition to claiming gold, Oluwafemiayo shattered two world records during the event.
She first set a new Paralympic record by lifting 162kg, surpassing the previous mark of 160kg held by her compatriot Josephine Orji.

She then went on to break her own record, lifting an incredible 167kg, setting a new Games record.
China’s Xuemei Deng secured the silver medal with a lift of 155kg, while Egypt’s Nadia Ali claimed the bronze with a 145kg lift.
With Oluwafemiayo’s performance, Team Nigeria concluded their participation in the 2024 Paralympics with the medal haul of two gold, three silver, and two bronze.
