Mr Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, has said the relentless killings, maiming, and displacement of innocent Nigerians are a clear indication that the nation’s current security architecture is failing.
Obi urged the Nigerian government to acknowledge the reality and take bold steps by declaring war on insecurity before it consumes the country completely.
The statement comes on heels of the horrific killing of several people in Mafia village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Obi in a post on his X handle on Saturday said the heinous act of violence is a stark reminder of the gravity of the nation’s security situation.
He said: “Again, I am very saddened by yet another devastating news of the horrific killing of several innocent people in Mafia Village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.
“This heinous act of violence is a stark reminder of the gravity of our security situation and the urgent need for a paradigm shift in our approach to the challenge.
“The relentless killings, maiming, and displacement of innocent Nigerians are a clear indication that our current security architecture is failing.
“We must acknowledge this reality and take bold steps, as I have always maintained, by declaring war on insecurity before it consumes us completely.”
