A 30-year-old man, Umar Wada, has been reported dead after he drowned in a pond in Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and CIVIL Defence Corps (NSCDC) Jigawa State Command, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
He said the incident happened on Wednesday when the deceased attempted to cross the pond along with his three friends.
“The Command, on Wednesday, 4th of September, 2022 at about 2200hrs received a report of an incident involving one Umar Wada aged 30, a resident of Yamma Village drowned at Akama pond in Jahun LGA,” the statement read.
“The sad incident occurred at about 2100hrs when Umar attempted to cross the pond along with his three friends namely Sa’idu Bala, Zakariya Dauda and Lawan Muhammad all of Yamma Village but submerged by the water.
“His body was recovered after two hours of search and rescue operations in the flooded pond by local divers.
“On reaching to the hospital, he was certified dead and was handed over to his parents for proper burial.”
