The Chairman of the Coalition of Northern Groups Committee on Security, Bashir Yusuf-Ibrahim, led a delegation to the Gombe State Government House on Monday, where they presented a security report to Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, who also serves as Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum.
Our correspondent reports that the NSGF comprises 19 governors of the North.
The report is a culmination of the committee’s engagement with stakeholders between January 24 and 25, 2024.
According to Yusuf-Ibrahim, the report highlights the need for collaborative efforts to tackle insecurity in the region, as individual states’ separate approaches have been ineffective.
Yusuf-Ibrahim said, “Insecurity persists because states tackle it separately. Perpetrators flee to other states when chased. We need collaboration and a unified strategy.”
He disclosed that the committee presented 20 copies of the report, including an executive summary and cover letter, for distribution to the 19 NSGF governors and the secretariat.
Governor Yahaya acknowledged the region’s challenges, stressing that the North’s significance makes it imperative to address insecurity.
He commended the committee’s efforts and assured them that their recommendations would be implemented.
