The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II has honoured popular Afro-beat singer, Divine Ikubor popularly known as Rema with a royal plaque.
The prestigious award was bestowed upon the singer on Thursday 29th of August, 2024, during his visit to the Oba’s palace. This visit took place when he was in the city of Benin for his homecoming concert at Ogbe Stadium.
The royal plaque was awarded to the singer in commendation of his effort in representing his hometown, Benin City, uplifting the culture and historical heritage of Edo State both home and abroad.
It highlighted his efforts in elevating the prestige of the city and Edo state, especially with his recent release “Benin Boys” which featured another popular singer hailing from the state, Shallipopi. In the song, they paid homage to their hometown, Edo state.
This achievement comes after Rema’s notable participation in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Edo Arena on Wednesday.
Along with the award the governor of Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki, announced that the 6,000-capacity arena would be named ‘Rema Dome’ in recognition of the artist’s significant contributions to promoting Edo State globally.
Fans and admirers of the artist congratulate him on his notable achievement especially at such a young age, wishing him much more success in the future.
