The candidate representing the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming local government election for Kirikasamma Local Government in Jigawa State, Yahuza Umar Labbo, is dead.
The sad development was confirmed to newsmen on Wednesday by the state APC chairman, Aminu Gumel.
At the age of 55, Umar Labbo reportedly died after battling a brief illness.
Accoriding to Daily Post, the politician is survived by three wives and fifteen children.
Governor Umar Namadi extended his condolences to the bereaved family and the entire Muslim community.
He offered prayers to the Almighty Allah, asking for eternal peace for the deceased and strength for the family to endure this loss.
This unfortunate event occurred just days before the local government election in Jigawa State.
It is worth noting that the Jigawa chapter of the APC suffered yet another sad moment weeks after its headquarters in the state was gutted by fire.
It was reported weeks ago that the secretariat was torched during the violence that broke out in the protest against hunger.
Aggrieved youths had stormed the facility in Dutse, the state capital, where they destroyed billboards and other publicity materials before burning down the building.
They also burnt vehicles that were parked within the premises.
The violence spread to some other parts of the state as armed youths broke loose despite efforts of security operatives to contain them.
In Birnin Kudu, where some persons sustained injuries, the State Fertilizer Store and Grains Store were all vandalized and looted by the hoodlums. At the same time, the state Agricultural Supply Company (JASCO) store in Gumel was also attacked.
The mob also attacked the residence of the House of Representatives member representing Gumel, Gagarawa, and Maigarati and the residence of the APC Zonal Vice Chairman.
