Six individuals have been arrested by the Lagos State government for openly urinating on the rail track in front of the Nigeria Army Shopping Complex, Arena, Oshodi.
The state Commissioner, Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab said this in a statement posted on his verified X account on Saturday.
He wrote, “6 defaulters were earlier today arrested for open urination on rail track in front of Nigeria Army Shopping Complex, Arena, Oshodi.”
He noted that the arrests were made as part of the Lagos State government’s ongoing efforts to enforce a cleaner and more sanitary environment, under the #ZeroToleranceLagos and #CleanerLagos initiatives.
Earlier in August, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) stated that most of the railway assets inside the Apapa Port had been vandalised by unknown persons.
The NRC Director of Operations and Commercial Services, Mr Akinwunmi Oshilowo, had made this known during a stakeholders summit which was organised by the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) in collaboration with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).
He had lamented that aside vandalisation, NRC locomotives face challenges in accessing the ports due to too many trucks clogging the railway right of way inside the Apapa Bulk Terminal Limited (ABTL) section of the Apapa Port.
The NRC Director of Operations and Commercial Services had explained that the NRC didn’t have enough Marshaling Yards inside the ports, adding that bringing their train locomotives into the APM Terminals in Apapa was always a nightmare.
