Two suspected members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, have been arrested by security operatives in Anambra State for terrorising the Aguata area of the state.
According to a press statement by police public relations officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, one of the men was arrested with a bullet wound.
He said: “In a follow-up to an investigation of a kidnapping incident in Aguata reported to the police sometime last year, joint security operatives working on credible information, at midday today, August 22, 2024, comprising of military, civil defence and other security forces, arrested two notorious secessionist group members.
“They are involved in kidnapping, car snatching, and armed robbery, operating at uga, Ekwulobia, Umuchu, Nkpologu, Ezinifite, and Aguata environs.
“One of the two suspects (names withheld) has bullet wounds on his leg, while the other, a fake pastor preparing criminal charms for the gang members, has confessed to the crime.
“They are already assisting the police in apprehending other gang members. The suspects have also provided information on the location of the shrine where they prepared the charms and some snatched vehicles.”
Ikenga said the Anambra State Commissioner of Police Nnaghe, Obono Itam, has assured the command will continue working tirelessly on all reported cases, especially incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery.
